In her own words . . .

“A teacher is not just someone who comes into a school building to hand students assignments, to meet the curriculum, and assign tests at the end of the unit to expect mastery. A teacher is a life support and role model for all students. I firmly believe that teachers help develop the paths that students live.”

In the words of others . . .

“Sofia demonstrates qualities of a master teacher. She understands that a one-size-fits-all delivery system does not work best for diverse student populations. While planning for learning, Ms. Guerrero differentiates her lessons to address all of her students’ academic, cultural and emotional needs. Her lessons are filled with processing and learning strategies which allow her students to build schemas for understanding the content they are being taught.”

Steven Speyer, Landrum Middle School Principal

“Sofia is extremely passionate about the craft of teaching. When you walk in her room it is obvious how much time she spends creating an environment for students to succeed. Many days I see Sofia putting in the extra time creating just the right lesson, cut outs, or projects to help students find an interest and love for math.”
